Below you will find important information and rules regarding our gliding platform. The FAQ answers the most common questions.

Registration and Login on the Website

Registration is required to use certain services offered by the Association. You can access the registration form by clicking the “Registration” button in the menu bar at the top right of the website. We only require a minimum amount of personal information and ask for additional details on a voluntary basis. Some services may require additional information.

After registering, you will receive an email with a verification link. Please also check your spam folder. Your user account will only be activated after successful verification via the link in the email. Only then will you be able to log in to the website.

You can log in by clicking the “Log In” button in the menu bar at the top right of the website. To log in, you will need your username and password.

Why are there different account types during registration?

Not all of the Association's services are free of charge. For example, classified ads from commercial providers are subject to a fee. Therefore, we must distinguish between different account types:

  • Private, if you are an individual who does not pursue commercial purposes on our website
  • Association, if you would like to have an account for your association and do not pursue commercial purposes on our website
  • Company (Germany, EU without VAT ID, non-EU countries), if you would like to have an account for your company because you pursue commercial purposes
  • Company (EU with VAT ID, except Germany), if you would like to have an account for your company because you have commercial purposes

If you have multiple purposes, it is completely legitimate and absolutely necessary for you to have multiple accounts with us. For example, a personal/private account and an account for your business. However, this is only possible with different email addresses.

Special case: You are a natural person (private individual) but are acting “commercially,” for example, if you offer an airplane for rent. In that case, you also need an account like the one for a business.

Once you have selected a specific “account type,” we will ask you to provide various required details. For business accounts in particular, you are required to provide the full company name, address, name of the contact person, and, if applicable, the VAT ID for invoicing purposes.

Why are there different profiles in the user menu?

Our website is designed so that we can use different applications for the various services offered by the Association. These applications may be off-the-shelf plugins or extensions from third parties, or programs we have developed ourselves. Furthermore, as users, you are not required to use all of the Association’s services. Therefore, there are different profiles for the various applications, and depending on the application, we require different information from you. This also allows us to fulfill our obligation to be economical in the collection of personal data. Currently, the following profiles are available:

  • My Profile: This is your basic Joomla profile for your user account
  • My Classifieds Profile: This is the first specific profile for using the classifieds platform
Emails from “segelflug.de” end up in my spam folder

Our emails are sent from the “segelflug.de” domain. If our emails end up in your spam folder, we recommend adding our domain to your “whitelist” of trusted email senders. How this works depends on your email provider and email program. Please look up the specific steps for your configuration online yourself.

Why is there a username?

The username is required for our web interface and is visible to all users. You choose it during registration, and you'll need it to log in to the website.

I forgot my username

If you've forgotten your username, go to the “Login” section on the website. There you'll find a link that says “Forgot your username?”. Clicking this link will take you to a form where you can request your username. All you need is the email address you used to register on our website. Once you’ve submitted your email address and it’s verified on our website, you’ll receive an automated email with your username. Please also check your spam folder.

How do I change my username?

You cannot change your username yourself. If you would like to change your username, please send us a message using the contact form addressed to the webmaster or the classifieds team. Please include your full name and your registered email address.

I forgot my password

If you've forgotten your password, go to the “Login” section on the website. There you'll find a link that says “Forgot your password?”. Clicking this link will take you to a form where you can request a new password. All you need is the email address you used to register on our website. Once you’ve submitted your email address and it’s registered on our website, you’ll receive an automated email with a link. Please also check your spam folder. Clicking the link in the email will prompt you to set a new password.

What happens to the proceeds from the Association?

The proceeds from the Gliding Promotion Association are used primarily to support gliding. The association is a registered nonprofit organization. Our fixed costs are very low, so the vast majority—approximately 95%—of our revenue goes toward our support programs.

How do I place an general advert?

We offer various advertising spaces on our website. You can find the prices and details for the advertising banners in our special “Advertising Price List” and in the “Advertising Details” information sheet located below under the “Prices” tab.

If you have decided on an advertising space or have further questions, please send a message to the board using the contact form in the footer.

How can I contact the Association?

To minimize the flood of spam we receive, we have not published an email address on our website. Please use our contact form, which you can find in the footer under “Contact.” There, please first select the contact person you believe is most appropriate for your inquiry. Currently, the following contacts are available:

  • Forum
  • Classifieds
  • Executive Board
  • Webmaster

Once you click on a contact person, the contact form will open.

What is the general cost structure for classified platform?

In general, classified ads for individuals and associations are free of charge. Ads of a commercial nature are subject to a fee; please see the separate explanation in the FAQ. There are also paid services available.

What are “business/commercial” ads?

The distinction can be difficult and vague at times. We are not experts in tax law, nor do we wish to discuss this with you. We operate under the principle that we classify anything as commercial as soon as you attempt to “make money” from your ad and its content. If that is the case, classified ads are no longer free, and you are expected to contribute to the maintenance of our gliding platform.

Examples of commercial ads:

  • If you wish to place ads as a business, for example because you are a manufacturer of gliding accessories
  • If you are selling an aircraft from your company
  • Rental offers fo an aircraft, container slot, ...
  • ...

What are the paid services on the classifieds platform?

The classifieds platform offers features that require a fee, such as:

  • Ads can be highlighted as “Premium Ads”.
  • You can increase the number of images in your ad. Currently, 10 images are free.
  • You can use the convenient feature to extend your ad with a single “click” after it expires.
  • Or move your ad back to the top of the relevant category (“Move To Top”).
  • ...

What are the payment services and the points system?

On the classifieds platform, you can currently pay with PayPal or using points.

Points can also be purchased via PayPal, or alternatively, you can contact the classifieds team using the contact form in the footer. This allows you to order the desired points package from the Association and receive an invoice for payment in advance. As soon as the invoice amount has been received in the Association’s account, the corresponding number of points will be “credited” to your account. In the user menu, you can view your point balance, “point history,” and general “payment history” at any time.

The points system offers several advantages to us as operators and to you as users:

  • You only need to make a single payment and can then conveniently pay for the Association’s offers within seconds.
  • You receive a discount on the points packages.
  • We only have to issue one invoice, rather than one for every transaction.
  • When you pay by invoice and bank transfer, we save on the significant PayPal fees.
How do I create an classifieds ad?

To create a listing, you must log in to our website. A “Post an Ad” button will then appear in the top right corner of the page. Alternatively, you can navigate to “My Account” in the user menu, where you will also find a “Post an Ad” option under the “Classifieds” section.

Then simply fill out the form. All required fields are marked with an *. The required and optional fields vary depending on the category you select. Please provide accurate information. The information you provide affects the visibility of your ad, as it directly impacts the filter function on our website.

When will my ad be published?

All of our ads are reviewed by our classifieds team before publication. During this process, we verify that the ads comply with our rules and attempt to identify any potential spam ads. As a result, it usually takes 1–2 days for your ad to be published. We aim to review and publish new ads at least once a day.

How do I edit a listing?

To edit your ad, you must log in to our website. The “My Account” menu will then appear in the top right corner of the page. From there, navigate to “My Ads.” You'll find your ads there and can edit the one you want by clicking “Edit.”

How do I delete a listing?

To delete your ad, you must log in to our website. The “My Account” menu will then appear in the top right corner of the page. From there, navigate to “My Ads.” You'll find your ads there and can delete the one you want by clicking “Delete.”

How do I contact a seller on the classifieds?

To do this, you must register on our website and be logged in. Only then will a “Contact this advertiser” button appear on the relevant listings. Clicking the button opens a contact form that you can use to contact the seller directly.

How can I report a spam classified ad?

If you're logged in to our website, you'll also find a “Report abuse” button below the “Contact this advertiser” button in the ad. Clicking this button opens a contact form. This form sends your report, which is directly linked to the ad, to the Classifieds team, allowing us to respond as quickly as possible.

Alternatively, you can also send the Classifieds team an email using the standard contact form in the website footer. Please include a link to the ad in your email or provide us with the ad ID.

How can I report spam inquiries on my ad?

If you receive a response to your ad that is obviously spam or seems suspicious to you, please forward that email to us, including any comments you may have. You can simply use the email address from which the initial contact request was sent to you through our system. The email address ends with ...[@]segelflug.de.

We try to check newly registered users daily for possible spam accounts. Unfortunately, we can’t always catch all scammers. That’s why it’s always important to stay vigilant.
