Description

Trailer for transporting gliders (single or two-seater).

It comes with its own license plate, as well as a duplicate plate of the towing vehicle.

Dimensions: 925 cm in length, 185 cm in width; maximum load capacity: 850 kg. Manufactured in Germany in 1986 and imported into Italy in 1999.

I purchased it in April 2021 and carried out an extensive refurbishment, including repainting, a brake overhaul, new tires, new lights and electrical wiring, and the installation of a rear-view camera system to assist with driving and maneuvering.

It includes a spare wheel (also purchased new in 2022); all tires show virtually no signs of wear.

The most recent technical inspection was completed in April 2026, with the next one due in April 2028.

The trailer is equipped with an inertia braking system, which automatically engages the trailer's brakes when the towing vehicle slows down. Note that reversing the vehicle will also trigger these brakes; to prevent this, a lever on the drawbar must be engaged to disable the braking mechanism.

You can also leave it engaged all the time, but in that case, the braking is handled solely by the car.

A parking brake (handbrake) is also located on the drawbar.

It currently houses a two-seater glider with a fuselage length of 824 cm while each wing is long 890 cm.

Internal dimensions are: 869 cm in length, 124 cm in width, and 133 cm in height, the raised section that houses the glider’s rudder is 159 cm high from the floor.

The load-bearing structure is a lattice framework made of steel profiles, to which aluminum sheets are riveted.

On the sides, there are 3+3 orange marker lights, and all the legally required reflectors, the rear lighting includes red position lights, turn signals, brake lights, a rear fog light, and a white reversing light.

Reflective strips, white on the sides and red at the rear, have been applied, ensuring the trailer is highly visible in the dark.

Two side-mounted cameras are aimed toward the rear corners; they transmit images via a cable system to two 7-inch monitors located on the towing vehicle's dashboard. When not in use, these monitors can be folded down against the dashboard, keeping the view clear.

The cameras feature infrared emitters, providing a degree of night-time visibility.

On the front of the trailer, there is a 74 x 73 cm access hatch, equipped with a keyed lock and a pneumatic strut for upward opening; this space can be used to store items such as fuel cans, various tools, winglets, spare parts, protective covers, a spare wheel, etc.

The rear tailgate opens downward and incorporates tracks for the dolly that supports the fuselage; this dolly features a foot-operated hydraulic lifting system. When closed, the tailgate is secured by a steel crossbar locked with a padlock.

There is also an anti-theft device, secured by a padlock, that prevents the trailer hitch from being attached to a towing vehicle.

Some years ago, the trailer was struck by a severe hailstorm with hailstones measuring 4.5 cm in diameter; while the metal panels were not punctured, they did sustain dents.

The legal maximum towing speed is 80 km/h, while exceeding 90 km/h can trigger dangerous oscillations.
