LSV Kreis Pinneberg: General Information on our Club
- The name "Luftsportverein Kreis Pinneberg" translates
literally into "Pinneberg and District Aero Club".
Pinneberg is a town Northwest of Hamburg, just inside the
federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.
- The LSV Pinneberg has around 120 members and is primarily a
gliding club with limited facilities for motor-gliding
and power flying.
-
Our flying activities take place at
Uetersen airfield which lies to the West
of the city of Hamburg.
The site is a large grass airfield.
The two parallel runways (09/27) are around 1000 Meters in length;
and the airfield is around 700 meters wide.
This means that power flying and gliding activities can
take place independently of each other.
- Gliding operations take place mainly at the weekends and on national
holidays.
The flying season is between mid-March and the end of October.
In the Winter months maintenance work is carried out in the workshops
and lectures on the theory of flying are held.
- Due to our instructors carrying out their work in an honorary capacity
both the practical and the theoretical training are free of charge.
One just pays the normal flying fees.
- Our activities include:
- Training of pilots to achieve the German Glider Pilot's License,
- We give special attention to the training of our younger members,
- Cross-country soaring,
- Annual flying camp,
- Occasionally demonstrating the art of gliding to non-flyers,
by taking them for a flight in one of our 2-seater
gliders.
- Our normal launch method is with the help of a winch.
By this method a 35 second launch gives a height of 400 Meters.
Then one can only proceed with the help of solar energy - in order to
remain in the air a glider required lift (thermals) and these are caused
by the radiation of the sun.
- We have a club newsletter Der Thermikfuchs which is intended to be
published at the end of each quarter (4 times per year).
The name Thermikfuchs comes from Thermik (=thermal)
and Fuchs (=fox) i.e. someone who is an expert at finding
elusive thermals!
Overview of Club Charges
The structure of our flying charges supports those who fly a lot.
The flying charges are reduced once the first five hours within
a year have been achieved.
Our 2-seater instructing is carried out on ASK-21s for which the
flying charges are 18 Euro per hour (12 Euro after the five-hour threshold).
The first single-seat gliders flown are our DG-300 and Discus (same price). We support cross-country pilots using club gliders with further
reductions in the flying fees.
