LSV Kreis Pinneberg: Opportunity to fly in a Glider
Where do we Meet up?
We fly from the North side of the airfield
(see how to reach us). Enquire at the LSV Kreis
Pinneberg's "Startwagen" (control cabin - photo below).
 |
- We normally operate on weekends and national holidays.
- In principle visitors from school age onwards can fly with us.
- You will be flown in a 2-seat glider with a pilot who will explain everything
before and during the flight.
- Only one passenger can be flown in a 2-seat glider (it is not possible for parent and child
to fly together).
- Some of our pilots speak English!

Organisational Matters
- The best weather to try a flight in a glider is:
- dry,
- light winds,
- good visibility (not murky),
- not too cold.
- It is not possible to book a flight for a specific date & time in advance.
Just come to the airfield and bring some spare time with you.
- We are not a "commercial" passenger-flying club. For instance, our training operations
have priority at the weekend. This means that if too many visitors interested in flying
come on the same day we have to be honest and request that they come on another day.
- For groups such as school classes we can organise flying in the week (e.g. a Friday afternoon).
Contact person for this (English language) is Howard Mills:
- Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent
who has to give their written consent to the flight.
- Bring sunglasses!
- Bring a camera for photographs at the take-off area. Although it is permitted to
take photographs from the air we recommend that the camera remains on the ground
and that you simply enjoy the flight.

Questions and Answers
How Long Does a Flight Last?
Usually a flight starts with a winch launch to around 400m altitude
and one glides for around 7-8 minutes before landing again
on the airfield.
That might sound rather short, but for the "first time" in a glider it
is enough for most people as there are many new experiences to be digested.
What Does a Flight in a Glider Cost?
A flight in a 2-seat glider costs 20 Euro (winch launch,
flying time up to 15 minutes).
Can I Have a Longer Flight With Thermals?
This depends on a number of things: the weather (thermals),
the availability of a 2-seat glider and a certain amount
of luck (whether or not the pilot "catches" a thermal).
If all succeeds then the flight can last for half an hour
or even longer.
Of course this costs somewhat more (EUR 0,50 per minute from the 16th minute).
Instead of a Winch Launch I Would Like to be Towed by an Aircraft!
This can also be arranged, providing our motorglider which we use for aero-tows is available.
This will cost around double the amount mentioned above.
